BRAZIL: An election driven by inertia

Opposition candidate Geraldo Alckmin had predicted that the electoral campaign would only really get under way in mid-August, when television advertising began. So far, there is no sign that public interest has increased; indeed, fewer than a third of the people surveyed by Ibope for the magazine Veja admit to being 'very interested' in the campaigns.
